Trump’s Disapproval Rating Reaches New High In Latest Polling Analysis

President Donald Trump’s disapproval rating has climbed to a new high, according to updated polling averages from Nate Silver’s Silver Bulletin.

As of February 9, 2026, Trump’s net approval rating stands at –13.7 percentage points, meaning disapproval exceeds approval by nearly 14 points. While that represents a slight improvement from –14.6 a week earlier, analysts say the broader trend remains challenging for the White House.

More notably, the share of Americans who strongly disapprove of Trump has surpassed 46 percent for the first time in the Silver Bulletin tracker. That figure marks a record level of intense opposition in the dataset.

Mixed Signals in the Data

Silver Bulletin analyst Eli McKown-Dawson noted that the small improvement in Trump’s net approval was driven by a handful of relatively favorable polls. For example:

  • TIPP showed Trump at –11
  • Harvard/HarrisX measured him at –6
  • InsiderAdvantage, an outlier survey, placed him slightly positive at +1

Despite those results, the broader pattern continues to show deep polarization.

McKown-Dawson also pointed out that Trump’s current net approval is lower than former President Joe Biden’s rating at the same stage of his presidency, when Biden stood at –12.2.

Other Aggregators Show Deeper Deficits

Other major polling averages show even steeper numbers.

CNN’s Poll of Polls, updated through February 5, places Trump at 39 percent approval and 59 percent disapproval, for a net rating of –20 points. That average incorporates surveys from NPR/PBS/Marist, Marquette Law School, Pew Research Center, and Reuters/Ipsos.

Rasmussen’s daily tracker, which often trends more favorable to Republicans, shows Trump at 42 percent approval and 57 percent disapproval, for a net –15.

Taken together, the data suggests that while approval has stabilized in some trackers, opposition remains strong and consistent across different polling methods.

White House Response

The White House has rejected suggestions that the president is facing sustained political trouble.

In a recent statement, spokesman Kush Desai said the administration remains focused on lowering inflation, boosting economic growth, strengthening border security, and expanding deportations of undocumented immigrants with criminal records.

Trump also dismissed negative polling last week on Truth Social, claiming he had received “the highest Poll Numbers I have ever received” and arguing that voters support what he described as a strong economy and national leadership.

Looking Ahead

Polling experts caution that approval ratings can fluctuate, especially during periods of economic uncertainty or political controversy. Silver has noted that additional surveys may further reflect the impact of recent national events that were not fully captured in earlier polls.

For now, the numbers show a presidency marked by intense polarization. While some measures indicate slight stabilization, the growing share of Americans who strongly disapprove highlights ongoing headwinds as the country moves deeper into 2026.

Whether the trend levels off or worsens could shape the political landscape heading into the next major election cycle.
