Gavin Newsom Calls Joe Biden “One Of The Most Successful Presidents In The Last Century”

California Governor Gavin Newsom is standing firmly behind former President Joe Biden, describing him as “one of the most successful presidents in the last century.”

Newsom made the remarks during an interview with ABC News anchor Jonathan Karl. A preview of the sit-down aired ahead of the full broadcast, drawing attention for both Newsom’s criticism of President Donald Trump and his strong defense of Biden’s legacy.

Newsom Praises Biden’s Record

During the interview, Newsom argued that Biden’s presidency delivered major legislative achievements that will shape the country for years.

“I would argue our former president was one of the most successful presidents in the last century,” Newsom said. “That is Joe Biden, and I will defend that to my grave.”

He pointed to several key accomplishments, including the CHIPS and Science Act, the bipartisan infrastructure law and the Inflation Reduction Act. Newsom described Biden’s approach as a “worker-centered industrial policy” designed to strengthen domestic manufacturing and support American jobs.

According to Newsom, those policies represent the right direction for the country, even as parts of them face rollbacks or revisions under the current administration.

Criticism of Trump and Democratic Strategy

In the same interview, Newsom criticized President Trump’s leadership style, saying the country is undergoing what he called a “revolution.”

“He’s attacking every single institution of independent thinking,” Newsom said of Trump. “And he’s succeeding because we’re still playing by the old set of rules.”

Newsom argued that Democrats must adjust their strategy to respond more effectively. He said the party should reconnect with voters by focusing on service, patriotism and practical reforms.

When Karl noted that some Biden-era policies are being undone, Newsom acknowledged that many are under pressure but claimed that some initiatives are now being embraced or rebranded by the Trump administration.

A Political Signal?

Newsom’s forceful defense of Biden comes at a time when Democrats are debating the direction of the party. Some party leaders have sought to distance themselves from Biden’s record, while others continue to credit him with stabilizing the economy after the pandemic and advancing long-term industrial investment.

Political observers say Newsom’s comments reinforce his position as a prominent national Democratic figure. While he has not formally announced any presidential ambitions, his high-profile media appearances and sharp critiques of Trump have kept him in the national spotlight.

For now, Newsom appears focused on defending what he sees as Biden’s lasting impact, even as the political landscape continues to shift.
